REDUCED.  Japanese Style Silk Embroidery of Butterflies in Rainforest And Ribbon Embroidery of Flora & Daffodils. 15 1/2" X 151/2" Framed.
This was a great 29 hours of creative fun to make First, I had this beautiful small make-up bag of this gorgeous material. I cut & pieced it. Repurposed it to make this wall hanging. The Japanese Style Silk Embroidery is done with a very silky, satiny long close stitch; very shiny reflective with highlights & color. Various shades of green brown yellow, orange red ribbons & silk fabric was use for the leaves & daffodils. Then the background was highlighted with free motion quilting as well as raw edge appliqué.
This picture is very 3-D and deep; the flowers, and Butterfly wings are more than 1 " deep in some places. Some of the ribbon is so thick it took pliers to pull the needle with it through the artwork. If you are interested in Ribbon & Stump embroidery, I wrote several how-to articles for Ehow. Ribbon embroidery and stumpwork originated in Medieval times. The 3 dimensions really make the art pop. This artwork does not have or need a glass is ready for hanging in it's ornate dark gold color plaster of Paris chestnut baroque frame. F2
