    Description

    Rare Vintage 1970s Luis Montiel Mali Mai Venezuelan Tapestry Art Rya Rug 77"x60" (Approximate Width x Height).
    Exceptional h
    and-woven yarn tapestry by Venezuelan artist Luis Montiel.  From Montiel's studio Mali Mai in Maracaibo, Venezuela.  BEAUTIFUL!!!
    The hand-sewn heavy muslin backing has the item number "28" handwritten and the artist's name "Luis" is woven into the front bottom left of the tapestry.
    Luis Montiel (1914-1998) was one of the greatest weavers of multicolored tapestries of all time...a truly unique and relevant artist like no other.  This piece was from my childhood.  In the 1970s, my family lived in Valencia, Venezuela, and my parents bought this piece to add to their growing art collection.
    The blue, fuchsia, yellow, orange, and green colors are very vivid.
    It is in good condition with a few slight pulls due to age.  The muslin backing has some stains and spotting due to the passage of time and the move from Venezuela to the United States.
    Selling "as is" in vintage condition.  Truly a rare find!
